Pharmacies are assigned a 10 character ID code to be used for claims process. These identifiers will be assigned as follow:

Newfoundland and Labrador:

Effective March 1, 2011, the first two characters will be NL followed by three alphanumeric characters to reflect the effective date of opening or ownership change (A to L indicate month January to December and numerals 01 to 31 indicate the day of the month; this will be A00 for all pharmacies listed before September 1, 1993) followed by the two alpha and three numeric characters in the "pharmacy number" assigned by the Newfoundland and Labrador Pharmacy Board. (For pharmacies opened prior to March 1, 2011, the first two characters in the “pharmacy number” will continue to be “NF”).

Nova Scotia:

The first two characters will be NS, followed by five zeros (00000), followed by the three character registration number of the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists.

Prince Edward Island:

The first two characters will be PE, followed by two zeros (00), followed by the six character Medavie Blue Cross identification number.

New Brunswick:

The first two characters will be NB, followed by two zeros (00), followed by the six character Medavie Blue Cross identification number.

Quebec:

The first two characters will be QC, followed by the eight character identification code assigned by the Regie de I'assurance maladie du Québec.

Ontario:

The first two characters will be ON, followed by two numeric characters (initially 01) which will increase by a value of one (1) at each change of ownership followed by the 6 character (numeric) Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) pharmacy accreditation number. Manitoba: The first two characters will be MB, followed by four umeric characters to identify the month and date (MMDD) on which the opening or change of ownership becomes effective followed by fourcharacters that include the pharmacy's Pharmacare number. Where the Pharmacare number is less than four characters, it will include an appropriate number of zeros immediately preceding the Pharmacare number to provide for a length of 10 characters.

Saskatchewan:

The first two characters will be SK, followed by four zeros (0000), followed by the four character Saskatchewan Prescription Drug Program ID number.

Alberta:

The first two characters will be AB, followed by four zeros (0000), followed by the four character Alberta College of Pharmacists pharmacy license number (this number changes when a pharmacy relocates unless the relocation is within the same complex - e.g. mall, medical clinic, etc.).

British Columbia:

The first two characters will be BC, followed by five zeros (00000), followed by the three character Pharmacare ID code.

Yukon:

The first two characters will be YT, followed by eight numerals (00000000), indicating the date, month, and year in which the pharmacy was opened. (The resulting identifier must be submitted to the Canadian Pharmacists Association for registration).

Northwest Territories:

The first two characters will be NT, followed by six numerals (000000), indicating the date, month and year in which the pharmacy was opened. (The resulting identifier must be submitted to the Canadian Pharmacists Association for registration).

Nunavut:

The first two characters will be NU, followed by six numerals (000000), indicating the date, month and year in which the pharmacy was opened. (The resulting identifier must be submitted to the Canadian Pharmacists Association for registration). Canada (Health Canada): Cannabis license holders, listed on Health Canada’s website, that are authorized to sell to registered clients and who hold a sale for medical purpose license, are assigned an ID code as follows: The first two characters will be HC, followed by the last 6 alphanumeric characters of their Health Canada 10 character issued license # and then followed by 2 numeric characters ndicating the year in which their license was granted by Health Canada. (The resulting identifier will look similar to HC1A2B3C21 – with the 21 at the end indicating the year 2021 if that was the year the license was granted)
