Use this profile for medication use reported by someone with knowledge of the patient's use. It records a report, not an authoritative order or an observed administration. Medication information retrieved or imported from SFM or PLL remains separate from this local DigiDOT statement.

Preserve what was actually reported

informationSource identifies the person who reported the use, not the technical system carrying the message. dateAsserted is when the report was made; effective[x] describes the period of use being reported. These may be different. Code the medicine and dosage only to the precision supported by the report.

For example, if a patient says at today's visit that they took ibuprofen last week, today's report date and last week's use period remain distinct. Do not infer a prescription from that statement. See Medication and allergy for the comparison with MedicationRequest and MedicationAdministration.
