Medication and allergy
The record type depends on what the source establishes: an order, an observed administration, reported use or an allergy assertion.
| Source information | Profile | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| A medication order in dental care | MedicationRequest | The order does not establish that medication was administered or taken. |
| A completed administration during care | MedicationAdministration | The current profile covers completed administrations. |
| Medication use reported by a person with knowledge of that use | MedicationStatement | Preserve who reported it and when; the reported period of use can be different. |
| An allergy or intolerance maintained locally | AllergyIntolerance | This is a local assertion, with its own clinical and verification status. |
Interpreting the source
For example, prescribing an analgesic and a patient later reporting that they took it are two different statements. The second does not prove an observed administration. Record the medication at the level of detail supported by the source, using the terminology permitted by the relevant profile.
MedicationStatement is not the container for information imported from SFM or PLL. Kjernejournal allergy information remains a separate source. Absence of a local allergy record does not establish that the patient has no allergies.
Linking clinical activity
A Procedure can be a component of a medication administration when it represents a separately documented action. Do not create an extra Procedure solely to repeat an injection already fully described by MedicationAdministration. See Procedure for the distinction.
The current MedicationAdministration profile does not provide a direct request link to MedicationRequest. Do not infer a supported order-to-administration workflow merely because both resources are present in the model. Open each profile for the permitted references and detailed rules.
