Use this profile for an authoritative medication order created in dental care. The order states what was prescribed or requested; it does not prove that a dose was administered or taken.

Preserve the prescribing decision

Keep the prescriber, order date, medication and dosage instructions as the order states them. Link the clinical Encounter and a Condition as the reason when those relationships are known. The profile has optional extensions for effective dose period, rendered dosage instruction and off-label use; populate them only when the source supplies the corresponding meaning. Their formal definitions are in the Definition index.

A patient's account of taking an over-the-counter medicine is a MedicationStatement, not a new prescription. A completed clinic dose is MedicationAdministration. The current administration profile has no direct request link to this order, so the guide does not present them as a guaranteed linked chain.
