The latest Simplifier.net release revolves around safety and productivity. While we have implemented new measures behind the scenes to protect accounts, we introduce important innovations for professionals in metadata management, validation and user-friendliness. In this note we explain the improvements and outline what they mean for your FHIR projects.

Consolidated Metadata Table in Implementation Guides

It's now easier to create a consistent table with all the metadata of resources within your Implementation Guides. Just use the new {{metadata}} widget and a consistent table will be shown with the resource metadata:

A full metadata table with one single widget.

Do you want to customize which fields are included? Just provide a list as the second attribute, for example:

{{metadata, url, version, publisher}}

Custom Preview for Your Own Styles in the IG Editor

Want your Implementation Guide to match your branding precisely? The IG editor already allowed you to adjust your own CSS and HTML templates. Release 2026.1 adds the ability to set a custom preview image for your custom styles. This preview appears in the list of available styles, so team members can quickly see which look and feel corresponds to which style.

Just add a file called preview.png in the guides/<your guide>/styles/<your style>/ folder and the preview will show up. Note that this will show best when the image is 250 by 150 pixels.

UI Improvements for the Learning Environment and Error Messages

We have revamped the Simplifier Learn page, giving you faster access to documentation and training about FHIR, profiling and Simplifier. The “Learn” page serves as a central hub where you find information about features and tools, training and courses. We’ve also refreshed the “Learn” section on the homepage with clear navigation and an improved layout.

The 404 Not Found page has also been updated. If you try to open a private resource without logging in, the 404 page now indicates that the data may be private. This helps users realize more quickly that they might need to log in or choose a different project.

Expanded Validation Capacity with Extended Terminology Expansion

The terminology validator now has a higher MaxExpansionSize. With this you are less likely to run into the warning that certain validation was skipped due to the expansion size, especially for core FHIR ValueSets.

Other Bug Fixes

In addition to the above features, the team has resolved numerous bugs to make Simplifier more stable and user-friendly.

The main fixes include:

  • Copy guide: Copying a guide now preserves the correct folder structure for style files.
  • Resource rendering: Issues causing random failures in STU3 resource rendering when mixing FHIR versions in projects and packages have been fixed.
  • Resolving packages: The /resolve page can now correctly fetch the @latest version of a package again.
  • TwoLevelMenu navigation: Broken navigation on third-level pages using folders with index files has been repaired.
  • Toc analyzer: It no longer falsely reports a missing toc.yaml in hidden folders.
  • Organization properties: The page for editing organization properties now always shows the description when navigating from another tab.
  • World map: The homepage map now correctly deselects a country when you move your mouse away.
  • Guide.yaml syntax errors: Unclear error messages when creating/editing an IG with invalid syntax in the guide.yaml file have been improved.
  • JSON rendering: Trailing spaces are preserved when rendering JSON files.

Conclusion

Release 2026.1 of Simplifier.net focuses on improving security, reliability and user experience. Besides security measures, we offer concrete tools to elevate your FHIR documentation and validation.

If you have questions or ideas for future developments, do not hesitate to reach out to the Simplifier team. We’d love to hear your feedback. Together we are building a powerful ecosystem for FHIR innovation.
