3.3. Connectivity Summary

Client systems must connect to the IAR FHIR Gateway to submit FHIR bundles, using TLS 1.2 and OAuth 2.0 Client Credentials for authorization. Health Information Custodian (HIC) applications are configured in SMILE CDR with client ID, secret, and permissions, and obtain short-lived access tokens (default 5 minutes) for FHIR requests. Temporary client secrets are initially provided by IAR support and exchanged via API for permanent secrets, optionally using a grace period for overlap.
