HAMD-17

The HAMD-17 is used to assess the severity of depressive symptoms. It consists of 17 questions, each scored on a scale from 0 to 4. The response options reflect the intensity or frequency of symptoms, with higher scores indicating greater severity. The total score is calculated by summing the points from all questions. The evaluation is based on the total score, which corresponds to different levels of depression severity.

As the team only had a copy of the original HAMD-17 in English and the available German translation GRID-HAMD-17 differs from the German version of the shortened HAMD-7 the mapping was based on the original HAMD-17 and the German version was partly extracted from the HAMD-7 and partly expanded with the rest of the questions of the GRID-HAMD-17. But as the HAMD-7 is better representable in FHIR than the GRID-HAMD-17 the team chose to prefer to expand the items from the HAMD-7 than make use of just the GRID-HAMD-17. This shows how proprietary licensing and versioning are not a standardized practice. Even if both the shortened HAMD-7 and the GRID-HAMD-17 are both individually validated a simple expansion of the HAMD-7 does not work sufficiently and it shows in mapping quality.

The original English version for this mapping example is shared below. All items and answer options are obscured, because of copyright restrictions. A license may be obtained from MAPI Research Trust.

Since the International Society for CNS Drug Development (ISCDD) holds the copyright to the GRID Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (GRID‑HAMD), the questions and response options are not displayed here. The codes can be found in the Github project.
