Description of GPDS
In order to ensure interoperable data exchange of the core elements of the psychiatric patient record, a clear definition of the syntax and semantics of the data to be exchanged is required. From the summary of the necessary data elements, an interoperable core data set (CDS) is formed. The interoperable CDS - the GPDS - is then used for different use cases, and in clinics, and research databases.
Content and Purpose of the Modeling
The GPDS aims to accurately represent psychiatric data collected in primary care, as well as for research and quality assurance purposes, and to link these data with other sources.
The focus of the first implementation version is on transferring the data captured in the German Psychiatric Data Set (GPDS) for secondary use, particularly in research and care improvement projects in mental health. The primary emphasis is on clinical and diagnostic data points that are relevant for describing mental health conditions and their treatment.
Mapping to Open Data Standards
The GPDS includes terminologies and ValueSets that have comprehensive alignment with open data standards, like SNOMED CT, ICF or ICD. Integrating and harmonizing with international medical terminologies is critical for the dataset’s future development.
This implementation guide provides a preliminary mapping of GPDS fields and their response options to SNOMED CT (and potentially other terminologies) as FHIR ValueSets.
The long-term goal is to establish a complete and official national mapping of GPDS data to SNOMED CT, ideally in collaboration with the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) and other relevant stakeholders, such as the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII). Once published, the provisional mapping included here will be updated and refined accordingly to ensure full interoperability.
