Example 9 - Detection of Aspergillus

Various methods are available for the detection of Aspergillus fumigatus.

The methods illustrated in this example are: 

• Microscopy
• PCR

Molds can be visualized microscopically after KOH staining.

• As already discussed in the first example, the staining method used is specified as a method under "Observation.method". The performance of light microscopy is not additionally coded.

Test kits for the detection of various Aspergillus spp. are available for PCR. In accordance with the rules for dealing with semantics for molecular detection, LOINC codes are chosen here that are specific to the analyte with the [Presence] property.
