Amplifying Women’s Voices in the FHIR Community

Welcome to Women for FHIR, an initiative dedicated to ensuring that women’s perspectives are heard, valued, and integrated into healthcare and health technology.

Since launching at FHIR DevDays 2023 in Amsterdam, Women for FHIR has been a space for connection, collaboration, and empowerment—where everyone passionate about advancing female representation in healthcare can come together to drive change.

Healthcare is not one-size-fits-all

Yet women’s voices remain underrepresented in both the workforce and clinical decision-making. From research gaps in female health to the lack of gender-aware technology solutions, it’s critical that we bring attention to these disparities and drive meaningful change.

Women for FHIR exists to:

  • Champion women’s perspectives in healthcare—ensuring that female-specific health needs are considered in FHIR standards, interoperability frameworks, and clinical applications.
  • Create a platform for advocacy and awareness—elevating the importance of gender-informed healthcare technology and policy.
  • Foster leadership and participation—supporting women as experts, speakers, and leaders in the interoperability community.
  • Build a supportive network—connecting individuals across healthcare and technology to collaborate, mentor, and innovate.

Women for FHIR on Simplifier.net

Women for FHIR on Simplifier.net serves as a key platform for FHIR projects focused on female healthcare. While much of our work is done at FHIR DevDays, Simplifier is where we can continue building, collaborating, and advancing these important use cases year-round. It’s the place to find, contribute to, and facilitate projects that address gender-specific healthcare needs.
