FHIR API
Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) is a healthcare data standard with an application programming interface (API) for representing and exchanging clinical data.
FHIR is an information network that lets you link data across systems and a communication network that lets you exchange data between systems.
FHIR is described as a 'RESTful' specification based on common industry level use of the term REST.
For more details about FHIR, see the most recently published version of the http://hl7.org/fhir or summary can be found in RDC guide RDC IG
Each "resource type" has the same set of interactions defined that can be used to manage the resources in a highly granular fashion.
Note that in this RESTful framework, transactions are performed directly on the server resource using an HTTP request/response
The API describes the FHIR resources as a set of operations (known as "interactions") on resources where individual resource instances are managed in collections by their type.
Version
RDC Implementation Guide supports STU3 version of the FHIR REST API.
The below base endpoints correlate to their version of the FHIR standard:
| Version | Endpoint | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| STU3 | /api/FHIR3 | Current, actively maintained |
Authentication/Authorization
- All REST endpoints are authenticated with client-id & client secret using an Authentication header with a "Bearer" token.
- To get a token to use for authentication, please reach out to API Manager team.
- Use the authentication token in the REST API calls by adding an "Authorization" header with a value of "Bearer
".
