Profile: PractitionerRole-Lab

Definition

The PractitionerRole Resource is a specific set of Roles/Locations/specialties/services that a practitioner may perform at an organization for a period of time.

The role, specialty, location, telecom and HealthcareService properties can be repeated if required in other instances of the PractitionerRole. Some systems record a collection of service values for a single location, others record the single service and the list of locations it is available. Both are acceptable options for representing this data. Where availability, telecom, or other details are not the same across all healthcareservices, or locations a seperate PractitionerRole instance should be created.

Context

The PractitionerRole-Lab (PS-CA) profile represents the constraints applied to the the PractitionerRole resource by the PS-CA project to represent a practitioner in a role acting as an observer for observation results for a specified organization. It is informed by the constraints of the PractitionerRole IPS-UV profile and the Canadian Baseline Profile to allow for cross-border and cross-jurisdiction sharing of details that support Diagnostic Result Information.

Usage

The PractitionerRole Resource is used to provide details about the author and attester of a Patient Summary in its header. Attestor is not a 'Must Support', and other jurisdictions have excluded Attestor. Attestor will not be part of the initial PS-CA:BC release. The PractitionerRole Resource will be used for Author. In BC, we have PractitionerRole FHIR Profile provided by BC Provider Location Registry (PLR). There is only one difference between PLR and Canada Baseline in PractitionerRole Profile.

BC-specific Notes

PractitionerRole

  • Definition: A specific set of Roles/Locations/specialties/services that a practitioner may perform at an organization for a period of time.
  • Comments: For the Canadian Baseline, this element is (0..*) but PLR needs at least one Practitioner (1..*). Canadian Baseline (S) indicates it must be supported. Since it is always available in BC PLR PractitionerRole Profile, BC can always provide this element.

PractitionerRole.identifier

  • Definition: An identifier - identifies some entity uniquely and unambiguously. Typically this is used for business identifiers.

PractitionerRole.practitioner

  • Definition: Practitioner that is able to provide the defined services for the organization.

PractitionerRole.organization

  • Definition: The organization where the Practitioner performs the roles associated.

PractitionerRole.location

  • Definition:The location(s) at which this practitioner provides care.

PractitionerRole.telecom

  • Definition: Contact details that are specific to the role/location/service.
