Profile: AllergyIntolerance

Definition

The AllergyIntolerance Resource is a risk of harmful or undesirable, physiological response which is unique to an individual and associated with exposure to a substance.

It includes a record of a clinical assessment of an allergy or intolerance; a propensity, or a potential risk to an individual, to have an adverse reaction on future exposure to the specified substance, or class of substance.

Where a propensity is identified, it is the record of information or evidence about a reaction event that is characterized by any harmful or undesirable physiological response that is specific to the individual and triggered by exposure of an individual to the identified substance or class of substance.

Substances include but are not limited to: a therapeutic substance administered correctly at an appropriate dosage for the individual; food; material derived from plants or animals; or venom from insect stings.

Context

The AllergyIntolerance (PS-CA) profile represents the constraints applied to the Allergyintolerance resource by the PS-CA project, which is informed by the constraints of the AllergyIntolerance IPS-UV profile and the Canadian Baseline Profile to allow for cross-border and cross-jurisdiction sharing of Allergies and Intolerances. It includes the relevant allergies or intolerances (conditions) for a patient, describing the kind of reaction (e.g. rash, anaphylaxis, etc.); the agents that cause it; and optionally the criticality and the certainty of the allergy.

Usage

The AllergyIntolerance Resource is used to populate entries in the Allergies and Intolerances section of a Patient Summary. The data source will be the Provider EMR.

BC-specific Notes

Allergies & Intolerances (Composition.section:sectionAllergies)

  • Definition: Risk of harmful or undesirable, physiological response which is unique to an individual and associated with exposure to a substance.

AllergyIntolerance.code

  • Definition: A concept that may be defined by a formal reference to a terminology or ontology or may be provided by text.
  • Comments: Must Support and Required.

AllergyIntolerance.reaction

  • Definition: Details about each adverse reaction event linked to exposure to the identified substance.
  • Comments: Must Support and Optional. For reaction element, manifestation is a Must Support and Multiple Values with at least one value.

AllergyIntolerance.onset[x]:onsetDateTime

  • Definition: Estimated or actual date, date-time, or age when allergy or intolerance was identified.
  • Comments: Must Support and Optional. Date elements are displayed in the format YYYY/MM/DD. There is a stipulation that AllergyIntolerance entries must be sorted based on their Onset Dates in reverse chronological order, such that entries with the most recent onset dates are positioned at the top, while older ones are placed at the bottom.
