1.2. Relationship to Other Specifications

This section describes how this Implementation Guide (IG) relates to other specifications, standards, and profiling strategies.

1.2.1. Referencing

• Ontario Health (OH) Subscription FHIR IG
  • OH Subscription FHIR IG focuses on implementation of the R5 Subscription Backport to enable Health Information Custodians (HICs) in Ontario to implement real-time, event-driven data exchange notifications using FHIR.
  • Point of service systems will use the OH Subscription FHIR IG to subscribe to clinical and medical imaging reports of their patients while this OCRE FHIR IG describes structure of the reports that will be delivered to point of service systems from the OH Pub/Sub services
• Ontario Acute and Community Clinical Data Repository (acCDR) FHIR IG
  • acCDR is a key component of the Ontario Health's Clinical Data Foundation, it stores and provides a record of the care which has been and is currently being provided to clients of the Ontario health system
  • Structure of the clinical reports described in the OCRE FHIR IG is aligned with the acCDR FHIR IG to minimize impact on the systems that contribute data to both OCRE and acCDR
• Ontario Medical Imaging (MI) FHIR IG
  • Ontario MI Clinical Data Repository (miCDR) is designed to facilitate the exchange of MI data and to enable physicians to view MI data from all MI contributing organizations (e.g. hospitals, ICHSCs) across the province
  • Structure of the medical imaging reports described in the OCRE FHIR IG is aligned with the MI FHIR IG to minimize impact on the systems that contribute data to both OCRE and MI
• OntarioMD Health Report Manager (HRM) Input Specification for Sending Facilities
  • OCRE maps reports to the HRM FHIR DSTU2 format for point of service systems in the transition state

1.2.2. Profiling Strategy

• Ontario EHR profiles
  • Similar to CA Core+ profiles, which provide reusable, high-quality, and standardized data structures that facilitate interoperability across healthcare systems and jurisdictions in Canada, Ontario EHR profiles were developed to support common reusable FHIR artifacts for OH FHIR APIs for harmonization and consistency, and will continue to evolve over time.​
  • For data submission, OCRE profiles are labelled "Submission" and are tailored to support the OCRE report submission requirements
  • For data consumption, OCRE leverages Ontario EHR profiles to reuse the common model for clinical and medical imaging reports to improve consistency with other OH FHIR APIs and minimize unintended discrepancy​
