Data Type Profiles

FHIR data types define reusable building blocks for representing common types of information, such as names, addresses, and contact details. They are used across multiple FHIR resources to ensure consistent structure and semantics for frequently occurring data elements. In this guide, profiles are defined on selected FHIR data types to clarify how they are used in the context of person-related information. These data type profiles specify constraints, cardinalities, terminology bindings, and usage guidance relevant for the scope of this implementation guide, while remaining compatible with the base FHIR definitions. The data type profiles are intended to be reusable across multiple resource profiles and use cases, and to support consistent representation, validation, and interoperability. For the full base definition and general semantics of each data type, refer to the corresponding HL7 FHIR specification.

The data types profiled in this guide are reoccuring in more than one resource profile and contain elements that should be used in a certain way in a Swedish context.
