MedicAlert Data Sources

Patient summary data sources

MedicAlert sources it's data from its members and a range of providers. The data is reviewed for accuracy and duplication, coded against Snomed CT, and then rated for severity and criticality.

A member can review their record on the MedicAlert Member Portal and their health provider can review and update it on the MedicAlert Provider portal.

All information is tagged with the system and person it's provided by. If the system provides a unique id for the resource, it's stored and used for data integrity. If a system doesn't provide unique ids or there is multiple sources, the record is managed by their SnomedCT code, last updated time, and through manual review.

MedicAlert data is assembled from the following providers, systems, and data sources:

MedicAlert Members (Direct From membes or their legal guardian)

- Via Phone, Email, and Post
- Via the MedicAlert Member Portal 

Health Professionals (Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Specialists)

- via Email, Paper, and via integrations with systems listed below
- MedicAlert Provider Portal 

PMS (Patient Management systems)

- E-referral initiated by primary care (Hl7v2?)
- API into PMS - as requested
- FHIR API into PMS
    - When accessed 
    - Webhook/ Subscription/ notification of change (in the future when supported)
- MedicAlert FHIR API 

Patient Portals
