MERT Required Definition

An element marked as MERT Required indicates that the element SHALL be present in a conformant resource instance.

MERT Required is enforced through:

  • Cardinality constraints (e.g., 1..1)
  • Fixed values
  • Invariants

If an element is marked MERT Required:

  • A Sender SHALL include the element in the resource.
  • A Receiver SHALL reject instances that do not conform to required structural constraints, unless operating in a documented tolerance or reconciliation mode.
