Value Set & Code System

The PS-AB conforms to FHIR rules with regards to use of code systems and value sets for coded attributes.

When the the binding strength is set as “required”, PS-AB uses the concepts from the bound code system or value set in PS-CA. If PS-AB only uses a subset from a “required” code system or value set, a subset of the value set was created (e.g. a subset of CompositionStatus value set).

When the binding strength is “extensible”, PS-AB uses the concepts from the bound code system or value set in PS-CA, otherwise, PS-AB extends the value set with concepts that it needs that are not currently supported in an value set bound as extensible.

Lastly, when the binding strength is “preferred” or “example”, PS-AB uses either a pan-Canadian or Alberta standard code system or value set (e.g. PS-AB uses concepts from SCPTYPE for ProviderRole.code).
