NPCR Anmälan FHIR Implementation Guide

CodeSystems Index

This section contains the 11 CodeSystem resources in this IG.

NPCR-internal CodeSystems mirror Värdedomän (controlled value lists) and Listvärden from NPCR Variabelbeskrivning where no standard international terminology applies. Each CodeSystem preserves NPCR's documented coded values to ensure documentation fidelity.

External standards (LOINC, SNOMED CT, ICD-10, UCUM) are referenced directly in profiles without requiring NPCR-internal CodeSystem definitions. See the About page for the full list of external standards.

CodeSystems by Domain

Biopsy Procedure

Four CodeSystems supporting biopsy procedure and technique extensions.

  • NPCRBiopsyFlag — Shared 0/1/98 (Nej / Ja / Uppgift saknas) flag used by three biopsy-type extensions (D_SystBiopsi, D_RiktBiopsi, D_OklarBiopsi)
  • NPCRBiopsyPathway — Transrektal vs transperineal biopsy access (D_RektalPerineal)
  • NPCRTargetedBiopsyTechnique — Cognitive / MR-US fusion / in-bore MRI / missing (D_RiktBioTeknik)
  • NPCRTissueSource — 6 tissue/cell source options (D_Vavn); supplementary to KVÅ where KVÅ codes are missing

MRI Findings

Three CodeSystems supporting the NPCRMRIFindingsObservation profile.

Biopsy Results

Gleason Score

Grading

  • NPCRWHOGrade — WHO histological differentiation grade, 5 Listvärden (D_DiffGrad)

Design Note on Terminology Binding

A consistent observation during profile design is that NPCR Informationsspecifikation does not provide terminology bindings for several variable groups (Gleason, MRI findings, biopsy results, WHO grade). For each such gap, this IG applies a fallback strategy:

  1. Prefer international standards (LOINC, SNOMED CT, UCUM) where applicable
  2. Prefer FHIR-recommended terminologies for structural elements (e.g., observation category)
  3. Create NPCR-internal CodeSystems only for NPCR-specific value lists (Värdedomän / Listvärden) where no standard equivalent exists

The 11 CodeSystems above represent the third case. Mapping to international terminologies (SNOMED CT concepts for EPE / SVI / biopsy techniques; LOINC for Gleason and PI-RADS) is noted in individual CodeSystem descriptions as future work.
