Scope
This Surgical Efficiency Reporting Information System ("SERIS") HL7 FHIR Implementation Guide (IG) supports the submission of data from various hospitals and health centres providing clients with surgical services.
The SERIS collects data relevant to the day-to-day operations of surgical suites.
Operational data are recorded in three main data submission types: Case information, Cancellation information, and OR Schedule information. Standard Code Mappings are also maintained by Ontario Health.
Other than terminology required by the FHIR methodology for status change of resources, all terminology and value sets have been developed locally and defined in the SERIS Minimum Data Set definition.
SNOMED CT concept codes are used in two places in the implementation. In the first the Procedure Performer Role Codes example value set has been refined and limited to two values for Surgeon and Anaesthetist. And for the representation of the American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status class in an Observation Resource, the concept is used to identify what type of Observation has been made.
Applying the Ontario Surgical Efficiency Reporting Information System HL7 FHIR IG
Ontario Health will be establishing the Ontario Surgical Efficiency Reporting Information System HL7 FHIR IG as an interoperability specification under Ontario’s Digital Health Information Exchange (DHIEX) framework. The PHIPA regulation and DHIEX policy set a regulatory framework to advance modernization of digital assets and digital health information exchange for Ontario.
