The table below describes the business data covered in this implementation guide.
Encounter Data Element | Description | Note |

Identifier | Unique visit identifier generated by the sending system | |
Status | Current state of the encounter | If different from FHIR value set, sending system must map to one of the FHIR values. |
Class | Classification of the encounter | Supports hospital, community, and virtual visits |
Type | Specific type of encounter (e.g. e-mail consultation, surgical day-care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation) | Modalities for virtual visits or AAC admit categories for hospital visits |
Service Type | Defines the clinical, medical, surgical or other healthcare-related service specialty of a practitioner who interacts, treats or provides such services to or for a patient | |
Participant | Practitioners involved in the visit, such as attending, admitting practitioners | |
Patient | Patient involved in the visit | |
Visit Reason | Reason the encounter takes place, expressed as a code. For admissions, this can be used for a coded admission diagnosis | Can refer to a specific Condition, a code, or free text |
Diagnosis | The list of diagnosis relevant to this encounter | |
Service Provider | The organization where the visit happened |
Clinical Documents
The table below describes the business data of clinical documents covered in this implementation guide. This table is a draft and we will develop it further in the final version of the implementation guide.

Document Identifier | Unique identifier for the document generated by the source system |
Document Status | Status of the document (preliminary, final, corrected) |
Type | Document type defined by the source system. We also have provincial document type under LOINC system. |
Date | Date the document is created in the source system |
Author | Author of the document |
Custodian | The legal HIC organization responsible for the data in the document |
Copied-to Providers | Providers who should receive a copy of the document |
