Value Set & Code System

The PS-AB conforms to FHIR rules with regards to use of code systems and value sets for coded attributes.

When the the binding strength is set as “required”, PS-AB uses the concepts from the bound code system or value set in PS-CA. If PS-AB only uses a subset from a “required” code system or value set, a subset of the value set was created (e.g. a subset of CompositionStatus value set).

When the binding strength is “extensible”, PS-AB uses the concepts from the bound code system or value set in PS-CA, otherwise, PS-AB extends the value set with concepts that it needs that are not currently supported in a value set bound as extensible.

Lastly, when the binding strength is “preferred” or “example”, PS-AB uses either a pan-Canadian or Alberta standard code system or value set (e.g. PS-AB uses concepts from SCPTYPE for ProviderRole.code).
