Examples Index

The following examples illustrate the use of the FHIR Profiles described by this implementation guide, categorised by profile type and pathology speciality.

The Bundle examples include on-screen representations of pathology test reports. These have been provided to illustrate the contents of the associated messages. They are not intended to define a standard layout or format for pathology test reports and should not be used as such.

The Bundle examples also include simplified logical data models to illustrate the key references between the relevant FHIR resources. To aid clarity, not all of the references are shown. For a detailed description of the relationships between the FHIR resources, refer to How to Construct Bundles.

Additional examples can be found in the UK Core Implementation Guide (STU3 Sequence).

Most of the following examples include equivalent codes from the SNOMED PBCL and SNOMED PaLM reference sets to identify the relevant pathology test. This has been done to illustrate how the examples can be used with different reference sets. In practice, it is likely that only one code will be carried for each pathology test. To facilitate the initial adoption of SNOMED and minimise the impact on existing systems and processes, it is anticipated that codes from the SNOMED PBCL reference set will be used at first.

The examples are provided in JSON format. This is the only format currently supported by the associated data exchange architecture.

Profile / Resource Speciality Summary Example
Bundle Clinical Biochemistry An example of a report for a single test with a quantitative (numeric) test result. C-Reactive Protein Report
Bundle Haematology An example of a report for a single test group with quantitative (numeric) test results. Full Blood Count Report
