1.2. Relationship to Other Specifications

This section describes how this Implementation Guide (IG) relates to other specifications, standards, and profiling strategies.

1.2.1. Referencing

This implementation guide relies on the following other specifications:

  • FHIR R4 - This is the base FHIR standard used by this implementation guide.
  • HL7 FHIR Subscriptions R5 Backport 1.2.0-ballot - This implementation guide uses the HL7 FHIR Subscription R5 Backport specification as a baseline.
  • CA Core+ v1.1.0 DFT-preBallot - This implementation guide uses Patient and Practitioner profiles from CA Core+ v1.1.0 DFT-preBallot specification.

It is assumed that the reader of this specification has the following knowledge:

  • An understanding of the FHIR standard
  • Knowledge of RESTful API architectures

1.2.2. Profiling Strategy

The profiling strategy aligns with the Canadian CA Core+ model, where national profiles form the base, and this IG applies additional provincial constraints. Additionally, R4 subscription related profiles have been created using the required elements from the R4B specification.
