1.4. Glossary of Terms, Acronyms, and Abbreviations

Term/Acronym/Abbreviation Description
azp (Authorized Party) A unique identifier representing the Sending System, sourced from the OAG token (Ontario Access Gateway token) and provided by Ontario Health. It is used as an agent identifier in Provenance.agent.who for FHIR contributions.
API Application Programming Interface
Clinical Data Flow (CDF) Mapping The process of defining how data elements and identifiers from various clinical data sources are mapped to the elements within the Provenance resource, ensuring consistency and interoperability.
Clinical Data Repository (CDR) A centralized database designed to store and manage clinical data from various sources. The CDR will be responsible for injecting Provenance resources during data ingestion.
DICS Diagnostic Imaging Common Services
DQS Ontario Health Data Quality Service (DQS) provides a single repository for data quality errors captured by EHR services, and provides a FHIR API endpoint to allow clients to interact with these errors.
Digital health asset "Digital Health Asset” as defined in O. Reg. 329/04.
EHR or Electronic Health Record “Electronic Health Record” as defined in Part V.1. of PHIPA.

PO or Prescribed Organization “Prescribed Organization” as defined in PHIPA.
Provenance In the context of health data, Provenance refers to the "Who, What, When" information about the origin and history of a health record or resource. It documents the entities and agents involved in its creation, modification, or deletion, providing a basis for assessing data quality and trustworthiness.
Provenance Resource A specific FHIR resource type used to record information about an activity that created, revised, deleted, or signed a version of another resource. It captures details about the involved agents, entities, and the activity itself.

THOR Transaction History Registry, a central storage to keep province-wide transactional logs
Traceability The ability to track the history, location, or application of an item by means of recorded identification. In this guide, it refers to tracking health data from its origin through its various transformations and uses.
W3C Provenance Specification A World Wide Web Consortium standard that provides a data model for provenance, defining how to describe the origins of information and things. The FHIR Provenance resource is rooted in this foundational specification.
X-Request-ID An optional unique identifier provided by a FHIR client for a request. If not provided, it's generated by the API Management layer and used as an identifier in Provenance.entity.what for FHIR contributions.
