HDBP0037-Epilabo

Purpose and relevance

This document outlines the electronic and structured exchange of Epilabo Clinical Biology information under project HDBP0037, in alignment with the LaboratoryTestResult use case. Because the involved actors and the exchange principles are identical to this use case, this guide will not elaborate on those topics. However, HDBP0037 does defines additional constraints and usage expectations on the information model.

The Epilabo project is focused on the systematic collection of laboratory test results from clinical microbiology labs. The sentinel laboratory network contributes to the depiction of the epidemiological progress of infectious diseases in Belgium. Microbiology laboratories regularly (currently weekly) report laboratory-diagnosed cases of selected infectious diseases, resulting in an extensive longitudinal database, facilitating the analysis of trends and distribution by individual and location over time.

Information

Information is sent per patient in a structured manner using LaboratoryTestResult message CBBs, as shown in the below-rendered model.

Patient1..1HdBe-Patient
LaboratoryTestResult1..1HdBe-LaboratoryTestResult

HDBP0037 incorporates modifications and additional stipulations for CBB concepts. It introduces concepts not defined in a CBB or the LaboratoryTestResult message, such as the rationale behind the laboratory test execution. Restrictions are also imposed on the expected pathogens, test methods, and test results. Moreover, greater emphasis is placed on supporting data regarding the involved HealthProfessional(s) and HealthcareOrganization(s). These changes are reflected in the technical implementation, encompassing concepts not mapped to a CBB concept.

Diagram of functional layering

The below diagram offers an overview of the layering of information. A description of the diagram and it's used colors:

  • The blue boxes represent projects are the basis for this implementation guide. More information is given in the CBB's general guidance page.
  • The green box indicates this implementation guide.
