HDBP0037-Epilabo
Purpose and relevance
This page describes the electronic and structured exchange of Epilabo Clinical Biology information, project HDBP0037, based on the LaboratoryTestResult use case. Because the involved actors and the exchange principles are identical to this use case, this guide will not elaborate on those topics. However, HDBP0037 does defines additional constraints and usage expectations on the information model.
The Epilabo project covers the data collection of laboratory test results among clinical microbiology labs. The sentinel laboratory network allows the description of the epidemiological evolution of infectious diseases in Belgium. Microbiology laboratories reports at regular basis (currently weekly) their laboratory diagnosed cases for a selection of infectious diseases. This results in a large longitudinal laboratory based database allowing to provide trends over time and distribution by person and place.
Information
The source HDBP0037 DCD lives here [INPUT HYPERLINK]. Information is sent per patient in a structured manner using LaboratoryTestResult message CBBs, as shown in the below-rendered model.

HDBP0037 includes adaptations and additional conditions for CBB concepts. It adds concepts which are not defined in a CBB or the LaboratoryTestResult message. Additions include the reason for executing the laboratory test. Restrictions are set on which pathogens, test methods, and test results are expected. Also, more focus lays on supporting data about the involved HealthProfessional(s) and HealthcareOrganization(s). These adaptations are represented in the technical implementation, including concepts that are not mapped to a CBB concept.
Diagram of functional layering
The below diagram offers an overview of the layering of information. A description of the diagram and it's used colors:
- The blue boxes represent projects are the basis for this implementation guide. More information is given in the CBB's general guidance page.
- The green box indicates this implementation guide.
