The PractitionerRole resource provides specific set of roles/locations/specialties/services that a practitioner may perform at an organization. The DataStandardsWales-PractitionerRole profile is derived from the UK Core PractitionerRole Profile. It defines additional rules for use within health and care organisations in Wales.

This is used when there is no way to reference the other resource directly, either because the entity it represents is not available through a FHIR server, or because there is no way for the author of the resource to convert a known identifier to an actual location. Implementation Guidance

A Practitioner may be linked to more than one PractitionerRole resource. This would be used to model, for example, a clinician contracted to perform clinical sessions at more than one organization.
The PractitionerRole.status and .period field SHOULD be populated to indicate whether the role is still active, and relevant dates to indicate the period that the role was active.
