NotifyADT (Admit)

This page holds the links to the FHIR® Bundle used for NotifyADT (Admit) and to the corresponding message examples.

The NotifyADT (Admit) is a POST message that uses the FHIR Davinci Unsolicited Notification Admit bundle to alert customers when the patient is admitted for a care event. Surescripts maps the following HL7v2.5.1 ADT message types as Admit notifications.

  • A01 – Admit/Visit Notification
  • A04 – Register a Patient
  • A06 – Change an Outpatient to an Inpatient
  • A10 – Patient Arriving – Tracking

NotifyADT (Admit) Sample Explained

When an ADT or Eligibility are received for an enrolled patient, the NotifyADT (Admit) notification sent to monitoring organizations by Surescripts consists of the following resources.

FHIR Resource Hierarchy Cardinality/Description
Bundle Patient found will be a Da Vinci Unsolicited Admit Bundle with a single Patient resource.
Message Header The Message Header Resource identifies the necessary details for transaction routing and auditing of the patient Admit notifications.
Patient Each Admit will have a single Patient (subject of the encounter). Patient resource will include the receiving system’s Patient ID and Assigning Authority provided when the system enrolled the patient for notifications.
Organization Multiple Organizations may be included in each Admit. The Organization resource can be referenced by other resources. At least one Organization resource will represent Surescripts as the Intermediate sender for the Admit notification.
Encounter An Encounter resource will describe the patient event including linking resources for the patient, location, diagnoisis, practicitioner, etc.
Provenance Each Admit will have only a single Provenance resource. The Provenance identifies when the event occurred and the author of the patient event.
Location Multiple Location Resources may be received. Locations will describe where the patient event occurred (Treating Facility) and may also include additional location details such as bed, floor, etc.
Practitioner Multiple practioners may be included in each admit. A resource identifying practioners involved in the event. Practioners can include primary care provider, attending practioner, admitting practioner, consulting practioner, etc.
Condition Each Admit may have multiple Condition resources. The Condition resource will describe the diagnose(s), if available, when the patient is admitted.
