Known Rendering Defects/Issues
Several referenced ValueSets are not available at their canonical URL or on the terminology servers used in IG publication (i.e. tx.fhir.org). This primarily impacts validation against Canada Health Infoway-hosted ValueSets. This doesn't affect deployed systems since, in that environment, instances will be validated against locally present valuesets. For several of these ValueSets, "stub" resources have been created to stand-in for the unresolvable ValueSets. Current guidance is to manually download the referenced valuesets from, for example, the Terminology Gateway. Investigation is needed to determine if the problem ValueSets can be made "resolvable" through Infoway or if they can be added to the standard terminology servers.
Some ValueSets in this implementation guide do not render comprehensively in Simplifier (e.g. Patient.gender AdministrativeGender). Please refer to Terminology page) for links to the properly-rendered ValueSet.
This specification surfaces the SNOMED CT Global Patient Set (GPS) value sets that have been identified by IPS for the purposes of providing implementers with early insights into the terminologies that are being promoted for international exchange use cases. In some cases, where there has been a SNOMED CT CA value set identified as the Proposed Pan-Canadian Value Set, there is a conflict in coverage of concepts between the two slices. This occurs with the CoreProblemListFindingSituationEventGpsUvIps, AllergyIntoleranceSubstanceConditionGPS, and the AllergyReactionGpsUvIps value sets.
The current modeling of the published GPS value sets creates challenges in the ability for validators to differentiate between the slices (even when value set exclusions are defined). In order to ensure proper validation against Canadian terminology in this release, these slices have been temporarily removed until further resolution is obtained through the publishers of the GPS value sets.

Other Known Issues
There is currently an issue when validating resources with the HL7 Validator using certain terminology artifacts from the Infoway Terminology Gateway. Some value sets, particularly those with a very large file size, appear to cause validation errors while using the Validator. Further testing is underway to identify and resolve the root cause of this issue.
Future Developments
- The International Patient Summary (IPS) is currently evolving its approach to modeling desired terminology that has been identified by the international specification. This change is expected to result in the addition of an extension and the removal of terminology slices of the next release of IPS to allow implementers more flexibility in defining the terminology that is most appropriate in the given context of the implementation. Because this specification is being released before the next published IPS version, this specification has pre-empted some of these changes (e.g., improving slice modeling) but will not be incorporating the IPS additional binding extension until it has stabilized further.
