Tablets
Ocean Tablets allow clinic staff to specify a series of forms for patients to complete, much like a digital replacement for the clipboard used for patients to complete paper forms.
The tablets can be linked to a particular patient record within Ocean so that the patient's existing health information may be used to pre-populate the forms or to assist with the customizable automated selection of forms (e.g. to show a smoking cessation form for patients with a history of smoking).
Sequence of Connections With FHIR Resources
1. Initial Patient Load
Patient records must first be loaded into Ocean in order for the tablet to display their forms. The patient may be uploaded into Ocean in several ways:
- via a Schedule synchronization (see the Kiosk overview for details)
- via a "Fetch Patient" request in the Patients app in the Ocean portal, where a health number is entered
- via a SMART patient-contextual launch
- via a Website Form import
See the Patient Resource profile and the $everything operation for more details on how the upload works.
Linking a Tablet to a Patient
To connect one of potentially several tablets at the clinic with a particular patient chart, the clinic staff enters the patient's "Ocean patient reference number" onto the tablet's main lock entry screen. The reference number is typically a brief 3 or 4 digit randomly-assigned number, viewable in the Patients tab for any patients loaded into Ocean. No additional call is made to the integrated system when the tablet is first linked to the patient in this manner.
To prevent privacy incidents due to reference number typos, the patient must subsequently confirm the birth date prior to presenting the patient's form information.
2. Form Completions
Refer to the Form Completions section of this guide to see the full list of potential updates that may be performed by the tablet, along with other core Ocean products. At a minimum, the tablet forms will POST to a DocumentReference to record a clinical note summarizing the forms.
