Purpose

NoMA's FHIR API is delivering new master data for medicinal products for the Norwegian healthcare services in accordance with ISO-IDMP. It's purpose is to provide a source of structured medication information tailored to the needs of hospitals. The service is currently under development in collaboration with the REgional Health Authorities (RHF) an NoMA.

NoMA's FHIR API will be incrementally completed over the next few years.The new medicinal product master data is compiled according to regulatory and clinical requirements and goals, of which the most important are:

  • Improve data quality for medicinal products crucial to patient safety
  • Detailed information on different packaging levels with product codes as unique identifiers to support “unit dose” and closed-loop medication in healthcare institutions
  • Parenteral and enteral nutrition data
  • Grouping of medications (PhPID) to support active substance-based prescribing in hospitals
  • Adherence to EU regulation No 520/2012 Chapter IV Article 25 (IDMP), which is incorporated into the Norwegian Medicine Directive (“Legemiddelforskriften”) Chapter 10 §12
  • Compatibility with EMA SPOR and UNICOM implementation guides, structure, semantics and content
  • Implementation of European Health Data Space Regulation (EHDS)
