Introduction

Based on initial communications with fire departments and software vendors, NIOSH is confident that the NFIRS standard can be leveraged to report incident data. However, because there is no adopted data standard to track individual exposures and other individual level data for firefighters, NIOSH seeks to work with software vendors and institutions to help sponsor such a data standard. While NIOSH will encourage specific questions to be included by RMS software vendors and creators of exposure tracking software tools in order to further the science of the NFR, the primary purpose of this phase will be to educate and seek adoption of the Health Level Seven International / Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (HL7 FHIR) standards to describe data formats and essential elements. Education and agreement on the FHIR framework for format/data exchange is the primary goal for this statement of work.
