# Introduction

In this module we will give you a general introduction to FHIR and profiling. This module does not contain any exercises as it is meant as a general introduction into FHIR and profiling. Continue with the [Start Profiling](StartProfiling) module and follow the exercises of this module to actually start profiling yourself.

* An introduction to FHIR resources
* An explanation of the conformance layer, including structure definitions
* What is profiling, why should you care about profiling and what can be profiled
* Using derived or layered profiles for optimal reusability
