4.3.3. MarketAuthorizationHolder Extension

The MarketAuthorizationHolder extension is used to capture the marketing authorization holder or manufacturer of the vaccine product.

4.3.3.1. Usage

This extension is designed to be used within the Immunization resource. It identifies the organization that holds the regulatory authorization to market the administered vaccine product.

  • Context: Used in the Immunization.extension element.
  • Target: The value of this extension must be a CodeableConcept.

4.3.3.2. Formal Views of Extension Content

Description of Extensions, Differentials, Snapshots and how the different presentations work

Short description

Marketing authorization holder (manufacturer)

Definition

Extension to capture the organization (company) that holds the authorization to place the product on the market in Canada, i.e., the market authorization holder. This may not be the company that has manufactured the product, but it is the company that holds the legal responsibility for the use of the product in Canada and should be the same as the company named on the product label/packaging.

Conditions

The cardinality or value of this element may be affected by these constraints: ele-1

Constraints
  • ele-1: All FHIR elements must have a @value or children
    hasValue() or (children().count() > id.count())
  • ext-1: Must have either extensions or value[x], not both
    extension.exists() != value.exists()

Definition

May be used to represent additional information that is not part of the basic definition of the element. To make the use of extensions safe and manageable, there is a strict set of governance applied to the definition and use of extensions. Though any implementer can define an extension, there is a set of requirements that SHALL be met as part of the definition of the extension.

Comments

There can be no stigma associated with the use of extensions by any application, project, or standard - regardless of the institution or jurisdiction that uses or defines the extensions. The use of extensions is what allows the FHIR specification to retain a core level of simplicity for everyone.
