Intended use-case

It is believed that the MedicationStatement resource will be a useful conduit to transmit a snapshot of medication information between systems - such as an Integrated Care Record.

Potential benefits:

allow real-time transmission of medication data make medication reconciliation easier reduce the need for manual medication transcription

It will not:

be a suitable replacement for the electronic discharge summary process necessarily provide the source-data for the resource (e.g. the request / dispense / administration etc)
