Welcome to the CA Core+ Implementation Guide.

CA Core+ defines a foundational set of FHIR profiles, extensions, and terminology artifacts aligned with the Pan-Canadian Health Data Content Framework (PCHDCF), including the Canadian Core Data for Interoperability (CACDI). It supports consistent health data exchange across Canadian jurisdictions by providing:

  • Common Data Exchange Profiles that define shared, foundational structures
  • Reusable modules for cross-cutting patterns such as consent management and workflow coordination
  • Extensibility to support domain-specific use cases like referrals, triage, and virtual care

This release is intended to support feedback, alignment, and gradual convergence across pan-Canadian and jurisdictional implementations. The guide is structured into the following sections:

Section Purpose
Business Context Introduces the purpose of the guide and how it fits into broader national health data initiatives.
Technical Context Describes the profiling methodology, mapping strategies, implementation guidance, and security considerations. Start here if you're planning on building an Implementation Guide or software using CA Core+.
Modules Organizes profiles into modular groupings, such as Workflow, to support reuse, layering, and easier navigation.
FHIR Artifacts Central location for all defined FHIR artifacts: profiles, extensions, value sets, data type profiles, and examples.
Change Log Tracks specification changes, lists known issues, and provides a place to collect feedback from implementers and reviewers.

This version of CA Core+ is published as a draft, pre-ballot (DFT Pre-Ballot 1.0.0). It is intended to support early adoption, implementation testing, and public feedback prior to formal balloting.
