MVP

Deliverables. For Prescription Management this means:

  • View a list of patient's medications regardless of prescription type (acute/ repeat/ repeat dispensing). This will include content about those medications
  • Reorder repeat and repeat dispensing medications. This includes being able to see all prescriptions that are available for repeat and reordering those prescriptions
  • Cancelling unactioned repeat prescription requests
  • Nominate, view and amend EPS Pharmacy
  • The patient will have the ability to track the progress of their request for a repeat prescription within the prescribing process i.e. authorised/rejected by GP

Out of scope:

  • Manage acute medication – reordering, amending or cancelling repeat acute prescriptions
  • Proxy prescription management
  • Hospitals and Other Medicines management
  • Booking a medication review through the NHS App when it is appropriate
  • The ability for a patient to add free text to complement their requests
  • Full end to end tracking of repeat prescription process. Pharmacy/EPS stages out of scope for MVP
  • Non participating EPS patients will not be able to view, amend, cancel preferred pharmacies

Evidence to support MVP:

Functionality Justification Risk Needed for MVP? Could it be reused by NMEs?
View a list of patient's medications Parity with the other foundation system offerings Yes Yes
Reorder repeat medications This is a must have requirement within the Prescription Ordering Citizen Standard. We want to continue to offer repeat prescriptions for new market entrants because today it is the NHS App's highest volume transaction. Yes Yes
Cancelling unactioned repeat prescription requests If this requirement was removed from the MVP then there is a risk that you would create additional phone calls and increased footfall in the GP surgeries with NHS App users wanting to cancel unactioned repeat prescriptions if they made a mistake. Or even worse, users would rather than going out of their way to contact the GP surgery, just ignoring their errors, wasting effort. Increased volume of phone calls and footfall into GP surgeries with NHS APP users wanting to cancel repeat prescriptions. Wasted effort fulfilling unwanted repeat prescriptions Yes Yes
Nominate, view and amend EPS Pharmacy Not supported by the Medicus payload but the current solution needs to continue to allow patients to continue using the existing NHS App functionality Yes Yes
Track the progress of a Citizen's request for a repeat prescription (unactioned, authorised, rejected by GP). Today there is no tracking within the IM1 standard, i.e. a patient requests a repeat prescription and sees nothing in terms of its status. This requirement will provide an accepted/decline status. This requirement does not cover the full end to end prescription process as it is not currently technically possible. MVP includes only the prescribing part of the process (authorise/reject by GP). In time it will be end to end. This has been a pain point within the customer journey Yes Yes
